gundam 00 series wrap-up

After watching episode 25 of the Gundam 00 series where it purposely expose a few new gundams in the hangar at the end, I noticed Sunrise managed to pull-out the most evil strategy to make sure that Gundam 00 fans will shrivel in pain and ecstasy waiting for the next season. And their hopes to see the new units in action fades slowly thanks to CodeGeass Season 2 broadcasting announcement. During the Gundam 00 preview screening, there were hopes that director Seiji Mizushima will bring out something ‘different’ from the 00 series but after 25 episodes, my conclusion was, 00 still uses some of Gundam Seed elements in its show.

Picked from Animenewsnetwork :

Fortunately, there is hope that Gundam 00 will stand out on its own. For one thing, director Seiji Mizushima has proven with Fullmetal Alchemist that he can manage political intrigue and characters that switch sides, without the incredulous plot twists and character motivations that sometimes bedeviled certain Gundam installments. For another thing, there are some early indications, particularly in the opening flashback sequence, that creators intend this series to get down and dirty into the gritty harshness of war — an aspect that was also sometimes missing in certain Gundam installments.

You can read the whole story HERE

I’m a Gundam fan myself and has devoted myself to them by generously donating a lot of cash into Gunplas and other related items, but after watching this series that I hoped at least will be much more better than the SEED series – total dissapointment. The only difference that I noticed is the storyline or the main PLOT and there is no is weapons of mass destruction in 00. Gundam fans should noticed that-
1.All protagonist for Gundam Seed, Seed Destiny and 00 looks the same

all-3.jpg

From left to right – Kira Yamato (Seed), Shin Asuka (Seed Destiny), Setsuna (00)

2.The existence of the DRAGOON SYSTEM is so obvious

  • Gundam Seed has Providence with Dragoon System
  • Gundam Seed Destiny has Strike Freedom, Akatsuki and Legend with Dragoon System
  • Gundam 00 has Throne Zwei and Alvatore with the Fangs

3.Extra additional armour for the Gundams

  • There is the Meteor Unit in Seed and Seed Destiny
  • There is the GN Arms in Gundam 00

4.Normal units cannot destroy the main units

5.There are special human breeds like

  • Seed, Super Seed and Coordinators in Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny
  • Super Soldiers in Gundam 00

The funniest ever new mecha I’ve ever seen – Alvatore with a new part – the e-penis

My ratings is 6 out of 10, if not because of the 3 gundam thrones, I’ll recommend you to watch Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann instead. At least if you’re not interested in their mechas, you can always have a look at yoko from head to toe.

I got a few mails enquiring about the second season’s broadcast and you guys can read it here – Gundam 00’s second season to start in October 2008

And another one mentioning about Setsuna as the main character getting pawned at the end of the show comparing to Kira and Shin in the Seed series as another different factor between the Seed and 00 series. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for now as you know in the Seed series, Mwu La Fraga got pawned while blocking a shot from the Dominion while trying to save Archangel. Then he was revived again in Seed Destiny as Neo Lorrnoke, brainwashed to be a captain under the Earth Alliance banner. Dont be surprised to see Setsuna again in the second season. What I can confirm is the Gundam Virtue pilot, Tieria Erde will be in cast if you look properly at the ending teaser.

As far as comparisons to Gundam SEED go you’re really clutching at straws. A lot of the similarities you point out make no sense or are on a cosmetic scale only.

    1. All protagonist for Gundam Seed, Seed Destiny and 00 looks the same

    • Blame Yun Kōga for that if you must.

2.The existence of the DRAGOON SYSTEM is so obvious

    • Bit based systems in mobile suits go all the way back to Z Gundam in 1985- a series which GSD takes A LOT of its plot from.

3.Extra additional armour for the Gundams

    • Go all the way back to the first Gundam in 1979- a series which Gundam SEED takes most of its plot from and the first half is a near shot for shot retelling.

4.Normal units cannot destroy the main units

    • Again, a Gundam staple since 1979

5.There are special human breeds like

Seed, Super Seed and Coordinators in Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny
    Super Soldiers in Gundam 00

    • Altered and special humans are nothing new and go back to Z Gundam, but Gundam 00 takes a different approach by not having Soma being Psychotic and/or mentally unstable.

Really most of your observations are only skin deep and Gundam 00 stands as a far more original and better executed series than either Seed or Destiny. Classic Gundam elements remain while throwing in a lot new ideas and executing them near-flawlessly. Unlike Seed+Destiny which really are both lame attempts at remakes of earlier Gundam series while 00 takes a new and fresh approach. I don’t have a problem with someone not liking a series, but when you twist the truth that’s when you loose all credibility as far as I’m concerned.

    Hi,

Please take note that I’m laying out the facts here by mainly naming Seed and Seed Destiny as 00’s comparison, not with the vintage gundam series. That’s why I dont even bother mentioning about the wings series.

I have to admit the vintage gundam series way before the gundam wing era are much more better, and they cannot be compared to them in any other ways. I myself have already watched all the gundam series available starting from the first ever gundam series, that’s the Mobile Suit Gundam released in 1979.

For your comments, I did mention that 00 series plot is something different and new in my post, in other words the 00 series has definitely implemented a new line of story comparing to the seed series. What I’m trying to emphasize here is mainly about the characters, mecha and the support units, not the overall story. And please take note also, that I never mentioned anything about disliking the 00 series in my review. And this is not a joke. My logic comes from what I see and observe throughout the series and I dont blame a gundam fan like you to feel irked with my review, but different individual has their own point of view.

Anyway, thanks for your great reply here and I appreciate it very much. Please feel free
to drop in any other time, my other reviews are all ready for any of your criticism.

    Thanks for viewing :)

Gundam 00’s plot reminds me more of Gundam Wing: Rebels from space go to earth, fight, go back to space, world unites against them, gundams get beaten up, come back upgraded and kick ass(has yet to happen).

Seed is more of a racism war: Coordinators vs Naturals etc

Wing and 00 are “us against the world” plots and thats why i like 00!

No offense, but there’s something wrong with your eyes if you think that Setsuna look like those two fugly SEED dudes. The idea of super soldiers is very common and nothing new. Ever read Sci-fi books? Even though you claim that the two are similar, your list of similarities are rather short and doesn’t make any striking points. I think you just like SEED to much to be open minded about anything else gundam.

    Hi Jayers:

No offense, but there’s something wrong with your eyes if you think that Setsuna look like those two fugly SEED dudes.
Yes, there is something wrong with my eyes after watching too much anime. I’m not comparing who’s looking better than who in these 3 gundam series, from my point of view – 3 of them have similarity in their looks.

The idea of super soldiers is very common and nothing new. Ever read Sci-fi books?
We’re talking about anime here, not sci-fi books and I only read game books.

Even though you claim that the two are similar, your list of similarities are rather short and doesn’t make any striking points.
My similarities is short because that is all there is in the 3 Gundam series mentioned.

I think you just like SEED to much to be open minded about anything else gundam.
You can say whatever you want, thats your own personal opinion – I’ve watched all the gundam series till now and I dont have any particular Gundam series in my mind that I’ll consider interesting enough to be the top of the rest.

    Thanks for dropping by :D
