Review for episode 4 was a bit late because of the missing opening theme in the Uncut version. I’ve went through a few fansub group releases even checked out one RAW version, and found out that the opening theme minus the rare Uncut version was pushed right to the end after the ending theme itself. The only extra in the Uncut version is a preview of a short segment from episode 5 (that I’ve already watched), where there is a conversation between Death the Kid and his father the Shinigami accompanied by the Thompson Sisters. There’s no point for me to upload the Cut version when there is nothing to compare with, but there is one nice shot at the end of the Cut version as shown below.
CUT VERSION
Another weird thing about the Uncut version is the repeat of the intro theme that was shown also at the beginning and at the end.
As expected, we could see a lot of action in episode 4, where Maka’s and Black Star’s combo faced their first nemesis, Sid Sensei’s zombie form. Also introduced in this episode is Expert Stein, the strongest Meister ever graduated from the Academy. I’ve noticed that different fansub groups will use different descriptions for Maka and the others. Its either Meister or Technician. For the next coming episodes, I myself will use the label Meister. Maka and Black Star currently are One Star Meister and Sid Sensei is a Three Star Meister or formally known as the Dagger Meister. Expert Stein is Maka’s father’s first Meister before the Shinigami. Why he left the academy was not mentioned in this episode.

Expert Stein
Sid Sensei was murdered by Expert Stein and was used as a toy to beat up students from the academy as an experiment. In this episode we can see a good fight between Maka, Black Star and Sid Sensei and its so obvious that the Black Star and Tsubaki combo is physically more powerful than Maka and Soul.
In this fight, Maka tried one of her weapons where she combined her soul with Soul’s, known as the Soul Resonance to create the superweapon of the traditional Scythe Meister, the Witch Hunter. The weapons looks powerful and even the Shinigami was shocked with it. And because of her clumsiness, Maka didnt manage to handle the weapon properly and almost hit Black Star instead of Sid Sensei.
Black Star used his Trap Star techinque when Sid Sensei start to hide himself under the ground and finally caught him and Maka also at the same time
My darling, Blair the Witch made an early appearance in the show and somewhere in between the fight
Well, I would like her to do that to me every morning, if possible. Makes me feel healthy
The bad guy other than Sid Sensei and Expert Stein in this episode is Phantom Priest Rasputin
The soul eating scene is as GROSS as usual
One nice background
I’m not sure about the messed up opening theme for this episode, but I did waste a lot of time searching for it. Hope the next episode will have them back or at least some ecchi scenes in it. From the preview of the Cut version, looks like the battle with Expert Stein will be a great one, so wait for my next one.
