I though it was weird having the Clannad series ending at episode 23 months ago, but now we have the official finale for this anime titled Another World : Tomoyo Chapter. It is a DVD OVA or DVD special with only one single episode. Only three main characters from the original Clannad series made it into this finale that is Okazaki Tomoya, Sagakami Tomoyo and Sunohara Youhei.

Story is focused on Tomoya’s relationship with Tomoyo, another alternative story compared to the earlier Clannad series where Tomoya went out with Nagisa instead. Waking Tomoya up in the morning and making Bentou for his lunch everyday is a routine activity for Tomoyo, they went out together, went to school late together, skipped class together and finally they falled in love. During that time, Tomoyo was campaigning for her Student Council Presidency title and also at the same time, trying to save the Sakura trees around the area. (These are all mentioned in the original Clannad series).

Tomoyo finally was selected to lead the Student Council and this is where the story begins. Tomoyo and Tomoya is like heaven and earth in difference, where Tomoyo could aim for a higher level in her life compared to Tomoya. Their relationship starts to fall apart with all the bad rumours that has been spreading around because of Tomoya’s deliquent title, and with Sunohara around that makes things worst for Tomoyo. After some advice from his teacher and some harsh remarks from Tomoyo’s assistant from the Student Council, Tomoya makes up his mind not to be a burden to Tomoyo anymore. Breaking up is only the option left. Since that, Tomoya continues his daily life, ignoring Tomoyo totaly. Tomoyo in the other hand has gained support for her project to reserve the Sakura trees and finally she managed to accomplish it. She also got a good place in the National Exams (fourth overall I think) and got offered for a exchange programme to study abroad.

One fine day, while walking home from school he met Tomoyo that was waiting for him by the roadside. Tomoyo tells him that she loves him and will follow him wherever he goes even if she has to let go everything. Tomoya retaliated by saying that he will go to where Tomoyo is now, in other words – he will work hard to be the same level as Tomoyo.

This episode is an emotional and touchy one, when love and separation is involved plus the atmosphere surrounding them. The ending especially could make your eyes cry in an instant with such a lovely vow exchanged between both of them and they probably will live happily ever after. Recommended. You can also see Sunohara changed his hair colour from the usual blonde to black for his job interview Pity there is no Tomoyo’s super combo kicks in here.
